A number of burns are planned around Eyre Peninsula by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) as part of its autumn Prescribed Burn Program. Burns are planned for Lincoln National Park, Mungerowie Scrub (SA Water land south of Big Swamp), Munyaroo Conservation Park, Venus Bay Conservation Reserve, Bascombe Well Conservation Park and Pinkawillinie Conservation Park.

Community members are welcome to Friends of Southern Eyre Parks eighty annual Clean up Australia Day in Lincoln National Park on Sunday 4 March. Friends of Parks member Jim Egan said we are always keen to provide local people with a way to connect with our beautiful Park.

Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula is urging people to play by the rules when visiting Long Beach, at Coffin Bay. Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula Manager Southern District Peter Wilkins said to balance environmental, safety and social needs it’s important that people respect the Coffin Bay National Park boundary and adhere to access conditions.

A cuttlefish viewing platform/shelter is complete and a new public amenities facility is underway, as part of the jointly funded Whyalla Northern Coastline Plan to showcase the Region’s nature tourism by the Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management Board and the City of Whyalla.

The weed caltrop has been popping up in Whyalla and surrounding districts following recent rains. The plant grows flat along the ground, stemming from a central tap root to about 1m long. It has green-grey, fern-like likes, and yellow flowers with five petals. The flowers turn into woody burrs with sharp, rigid spines that split into five wedge-shaped segments when ripe.
